Costco Canada: Asus 8″ Memo Pad 16GB Tablet Just $199 (Was $239)

Costco Canada: Asus 8 Memo Pad 16GB Tablet Just $199 (Was $239)

Have you been shopping around for a convenient little tablet? Costco Canada currently has the Asus 8″ Memo Pad 16GB tablet for just $198.99.

Available in either white, grey or pink, this 8″ tablet actually packs quite the punch with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 1GB ram and a 16GB hard drive that can be upgraded to 64GB.

As for a quick price comparison, Costco’s offer is definitely the cheapest, with Amazon.ca selling this same Asus tablet for $239.96 and Staples listing it at $239.99. Out of all the stores that I searched for this tablet, Best Buy seems to be offering it at the highest price: $241.64. One reviewer did, however, note the following:

If you are looking for a great android tablet and don’t want to shell out for the higher priced screen this is it. It has 95% of the functionality and performance of a higher priced alternative. We downloaded some HD games and didn’t really see any real performance/screen differences that would have justified a $200-$300 additional price hit. And Asus once again ( I also own a Asus Transformer Pad 300T) has done well with having some additional apps installed but not overdoing it. Battery life is excellent. It’s light and the 8″ screen is a great go between size. Highly recommended.

On top of offering a better deal than its competitors, another advantage of getting it with Costco is that it will also ship for free.

CanadaComputers: Asus B400A Ultrabook – 14.1″ Screen, Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD for $749 (Save $200)

CanadaComputers: Asus B400A Ultrabook 14.1 Screen, Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD for $749 (Save $200)

Get your Asus Ultrabook for only $749 at Canada Computers!

CanadaComputers has this listed as a “business ultrabook” which is probably because it’s a bit underpowered. Of course a lot of people buy way more computer than they need. If you do email, Facebook and cat videos on YouTube, this is going to work just fine for you. You don’t need to go all out unless you’re going to play some newer games, do video editing or any other heavy lifting. That being said, you can certainly do worse than this computer. It’s not so underpowered as to be a hindrance.

Of course you can also use it for legitimate business purposes. Accounting software, word processors, email and other business applications don’t generally need a high powered machine so if you’re running a small business or home business and don’t want to spend too much on a computer, this one is fine. You want to focus on running your business, not worry about technology.

I looked around and it seems most places are selling this for around the $999 price point so this is a legitimately good deal from Canada Computers. You’re going to get it for $749. That’s $200 off of the original $949. Shipping is based on where you live. If you’re near one of the Canada Computers locations (Ontario and Quebec) you can pick it up for free.

Memory Express: Get a $50 Gift Card when You Buy Select Asus PCs

Memory Express: Get a $50 Gift Card when You Buy Select Asus PCs

Pick up a great Asus PC and get a $50 gift card from Memory Express!

It depends where you live but it’s starting to get close to being too late for buying Christmas gifts online unless you pay more for shipping. Regardless, this is a great deal. You pick up one of  their all-in-one PCs. They range from $1069.99 to $1949.99 and some of them are touch enabled. Of the five, I like the Asus Transformer P1801-B110K All-in-One. It’s $1499.99 (was $1549.99, save $50 + get a $50 gift card) and it’s pretty innovative. It’s also kind of wacky. It’s an 18″ touch screen Windows 8 computer and an Android tablet. Like I said, wacky!

This would actually be a great gift for someone going back to university. Dorms are cramped as is so an all-in-one like this would be a great space saver and it could act as computer, TV and tablet.

As usual with these deals there is always the temptation to give yourself the gift card or you could give it to the person you are buying the computer for. Of course if are buying the computer for yourself, you can do both.

Standard shipping is $4.99 but you might want to go with the express shipping option.

Microsoft Store Canada: Up to $300 Off Windows 8 Computers

Posted by on June 4, 2013 at 9:00 PM

Microsoft Store Canada: Up to $300 Off Windows 8 Computers

HP. Asus, Lenovo, Samsung. Whatever you want, Microsoft has it and they have it for less!

There are some awesome computers at awesome prices here. There aren’t really any that I wouldn’t recommend so pick the one that you feel fits you the best!

The elephant in the room with this deal is the Windows 8 part so I’m going to address that up front. These are great computers and Windows 8 should not turn you off from buying them. I’ll explain why. There are a few things that people don’t like about Windows 8 but let’s tackle the big one: the start menu/button.

Instead of the start menu we now have the start screen which contains all of your programs. So the main difference is that before you had a menu that popped up and now it’s a whole screen. This is quite literally the stupidest complaint about Windows 8. I can’t even think of an argument that makes sense for why this is bad. Instead of opening a menu in the corner and launching programs, you open a new screen. That’s it. You can leave the screen with the click of a mouse or the push of a button just like you did with the old menu. It is functionally unchanged except you can’t see what’s on you’re screen while you’re looking in the start menu. I would submit to you that it is a very limited case for having to have your start menu open at the same time you are reading a website or watching a video. If you’ve opened your start menu, your focus will be there until you are done with it.

As far as the start button, you can just push the start key on your keyboard and, because you whined so much, Microsoft is releasing an update to put the start button back. If you are really so enraged about the change, you can get a program Classic Shell to return your previous menu. People even complain that Windows 8 books in to the start screen. Waitaminute, you’re saying that the operating system immediately brings me to the place where I can launch programs?! That’s horrible! Or maybe it’s an awesome design choice so that you can choose which program to launch immediately on boot instead of having to open a menu and claw through stuff.

This is a deals site, not a tech blog, so I didn’t go into detail or hit all the points I would have had I been writing a tech article but I just wanted to show you that Windows 8 isn’t some terrible demon. I’m not even a Windows guy. I traditionally use Linux and I’m fine with Windows 8. So if you’re looking for a new laptop don’t let Windows 8 scare you away from these awesome deals. Also, they all ship for FREE!

What do you think about Windows 8? Let me know in the comments below!

Memory Express Canada: ONE DAY ONLY! Asus X54C Laptop Only $400 (Save $100)

Gone are the dark days of laptops being a luxury item. MemoryExpress has helped usher in the era of every household having a laptop and they are continuing with the Asus X54C.

Remember the dark days of laptop computing? The days when you only had a laptop if it was issued to you for school or work or if you were rich or had saved up tons of money? Yeah, me too. Weren’t those just terrible days? I remember paying over $2000 for a Toshiba laptop that is less powerful (by quite a bit) than my phone.

The Asus laptop being offered is perfect for the casual user and priced accordingly. It’s only $399.99 which is $100 off the regular price of $499.99. You aren’t gonna be playing the latest games or rendering 5k footage with this thing but if you wanna play Angry Birds, use Facebook or Skype with someone, it’ll be fine.  Here are the specs:

  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
  • Intel Core i3 Processor
  • 6GB DDR3 RAM
  • 15.6″ 16:9 HD LED Screen
  • 500 GB HDD
  • 2.6 kg (with 4 cell battery)
Shipping is $4.99.

NewEgg Canada: ASUS VS Series 24″ Monitor Only $140 After Discount, Coupon & Rebate (Was $210)

NewEgg Canada: ASUS VS Series 24 Monitor Only $140 After Discount, Coupon & Rebate (Was $210)

A great new monitor and a great price from Asus and New Egg Canada!

Click here to get your new Asus monitor @ NewEgg.ca

  • Coupon Code: CAWKLY03251
  • Discount: $20 off
  • Expiry: Unknown

So the price is kind of hard to figure out here since some of them are applied after taxes but it’s more or less $209.99 – $30 instant discount – $20 coupon code – $20 mail-in rebate. That ends up being $140! This really is a good deal for a monitor like this. I took a look around at other retailers and I found that amazon.com (who is usually cheaper than Canadian retailers) is selling it for $170. So this is $30 cheaper than the  place that usually sells stuff for cheaper than we can get in Canada. Not too shabby, eh?

I haven’t had an Asus monitor but I’ve used them fairly extensively and I like them quite a bit. My tablet was an Asus and the screen in that was good too. On top of that, the rating on NewEgg Canada is 4/5 eggs, which is great when you realize that people tend to review items they dislike more than items they like.

Shipping is free. For more NewEgg Canada coupons, click here.

Amazon Canada: $50 Off Asus Transformer TF300T – Standalone or With Dock

Amazon Canada: $50 Off Asus Transformer TF300T Standalone or With Dock

A great sale from Amazon Canada and Asus this week. You get a great tablet at a great price! $50 savings on the tablet by itself of the tablet and keyboard/battery dock.

I owned the original Asus Transformer, the TF101, and the dock and it was quite literally one of the best products I’d ever used. I used it instead of a laptop for well over a year. Maybe over two years. I only sold it because I got a laptop but now I dearly miss my tablet.

If you’re at all interested in a tablet, I highly suggest this one. The tablet is great but the keyboard dock really makes it awesome. The dock has a keyboard and mouse that make it infinitely more useful for typing. I find the mouse pad less useful on a touch screen device but it’s there if you want it. I found on a few games it was easier to mouse than touch. Actually, that’s a good point. The arrow keys on the keyboard map properly to the controls on some games so those annoying on-screen controls, in some cases, go away.

The battery is the other aspect of the dock. It gives insane battery life. I’m talking like 16 hours on one charge. Now of course if you’re streaming HD video that 16 hour life is going to be far less but I could routinely go two days, with a fair amount of Netflix watching, on one charge. This really is one of the best mobile computing devices you can get today and the price is awesome.

NewEgg.ca: FREE shipping and $50 off Asus 21.5 Monitor + More Christmas Deals!

This is one of the highest rated monitors on NewEgg Canada and has one of the best prices around with this coupon code!

Click here to get your new Asus 21.5″ Monitor @ NewEgg.ca!

  • Coupon Code: CEMCJHNE55
  • Discount: $50 off Asus 21.5″ Monitor
  • Expiry: Unknown

Like I said in my little intro, this is one of the highest rated items on NewEgg Canada. About 02% of it’s ratings are 4/5 or above. Overall it has over a 4.5/5. The only real complaint I read was that it is a bit wobbly on the base but a reviewer said he got a note from Asus who advised him to tighten the screw on the bottom of the base in order to stop the wobble. Problem solved!

I thought this was a great review, especially for a Apple-hating curmudgeon like me!

This monitor has a seriously good image, going from my previous iMac to this is like going from being blind to 20/20 vision.

But wait, there’s more!

NewEgg is having a great Christmas sale so even if you aren’t up for a new monitor, there are tons of other great deals!

Amazon.ca: Save $300 on an Asus 15.6″ Gaming Laptop (Save 18%!)

Amazon.ca: Save $300 on an Asus 15.6 Gaming Laptop (Save 18%!)

Gaming is an expensive hobby so Bargainmoose and Amazon Canada want to make it just a little bit cheaper!

Seriously. PC gaming is ridiculously expensive. Gaming on the go is even more expensive, it seems. There are gaming laptops out there that atop $4000 and they don’t go on sale too often. Even when you do find sales on them they usually aren’t the 20% off we’re seeing here.

This Asus gaming laptop is $1699 on Amazon but you’re going to save $300 making the final price $1399. Here are the main specs. You get free shipping but these are selling fast to it may be delayed while they get more in.

  • Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz
  • 16GB DDR3
  • 256GB SOLID STATE
  • Windows 7 Home
  • NVIDIA GTX 560M 3G@

Amazon has a lot of information on this computer so if you need to know anything else, check out the Amazon site! Maybe even get the gamer geek in your life to check it out and see if maybe it would be a good Christmas gift.

Acer Aspire Ultrabooks up to 26% off @ Amazon.ca

Acer Aspire Ultrabooks up to 26% off @ Amazon.ca

Aspire to buy an ultrabook. Aspire to save money.

These are three ultrabooks on sale:

As usual with Amazon, anything over $25 ships free.

I’m really interested in the ultrabook movement. Unlike the netbook craze of 2009, I feel like this one actually has some legs. Mainly in that it’s a full blown laptop that’s been stripped to make it slimmer. Unless you’re doing some heavy lifting like video editing or photo editing or some heavy gaming you probably don’t need anything beefier than one of these.

Acer is now a top brand (Usually #2 or #3, depending on which research company you listen to) in the PC world. They used to be a third tier manufacturer, way back in the day, but have proven themselves worthy.
