Amazon.ca: Knack for the PlayStation 4 Now $28.23 (Orig. $60)

Amazon.ca: Knack for the PlayStation 4 Now $28.23 (Orig. $60)

Amazon Canada has a great deal on the game Knack for the Playstation 4. Originally $59.99, the game is now on sale for $28.23 and will receive free shipping as it costs over $25.

Now for a little price comparing. Knack for the PS4 costs $39.99 @ Future Shop, Best Buy and at EB Games and $59.98 @ Walmart.ca. You can buy the pre-owned versions at EB Games and Future Shop, but you are only saving another $5: the pre-owned versions cost $34.99. Amazon trumps all these companies with their new copies only $28.23 with free shipping.

So the reviews on this game are pretty mixed. If you are a hard-core gamer, then you might want to pass on this offering as the game controls are simple and it is not exactly the most challenging game out there. However, if you like a mix of old school gaming with modern graphics, if you like beating goblins to smithereens, and if you enjoy more simplistic controls, you might want to try this game. This game is mostly combat: Knack may be a pint-sized little thing but he can use his “powers to transform into a powerful brute or gigantic wrecking machine to defeat the onslaught of a goblin invasion.”

One reviewer said:

This game is fun, whimsical and pleasant. I find this relaxing and quite enjoyable. Most of all, I can play it! This is not the tough game that it is made out to be. As a series of challenges sometimes I succeed and other times I fail; When I fail I just try and try again until I get it right. After 3 hours and one major boss fight I haven’t yet hit a wall. It’s classic gaming but with modern visuals, audio and controls. Accept the game on its own terms. I think that it’s a proper game that is disarmingly innocent. And if kids can play a Mario game then Knack should be easy.

I think this would be a great game for kids or amateur gamers (like me) who do not need excess complexity to have fun. In fact, I vastly prefer a game with a smaller learning curve so I can just get in and have fun without getting my butt kicked too many times first.

For $11 cheaper than anyone else is selling the game for, I think Knack is a good buy from Amazon Canada right now.

Amazon Canada: Canon PowerShot S200 $180 (Save $140)

Amazon Canada: Canon PowerShot S200 $180 (Save $140)

Amazon Canada is selling the Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Camera in black for $179.99, originally $319.99.

I price compared this camera with some other Canadian companies to make sure you are getting the best deal. I found this camera at Future Shop Canada for $239.99, at Staples Canada for $249.97 and at Henry’s Canada for $269.99. Even looking at the best of those three prices (Future Shop), you are still saving an extra $60 with Amazon Canada’s deal.

This camera features a 10.1 MP camera lens, built-in Wi-Fi, 3.0″ LCD touch screen panel, and the ability to take 720p HD video. The Wi-Fi allows you to share your pictures wirelessly: just click and upload them to any one of your favourite social networking websites through the Canon Image Gateway. This camera can also connect wirelessly to both Android and iOS devices, a huge step forward for computer-less people. The camera can also print your photos directly to a wireless PictBridge certified printer.

There is a great review of this camera on Amazon.ca. While I will not repeat the entire thing here, this is an excerpt I thought would be useful:

The camera has the same excellent large-pixel CCD sensor as other pre-S100 PowerShot cameras. Low light performance is exceptional. Don’t be misled by the 10.1 megapixel count: a noise-free 10 megapixel image looks great compared to those taken with a camera with bigger numbers but subjectively inferior sharpness under low lighting.

I find this rather helpful because 10.1 MP count would usually turn me off as I would go for 16MP or above. However, the writer has a very good point and I would certainly reconsider the unit based on his feedback. While I love my DSLR, do not get me wrong, it is very cumbersome to carry around all the time. Many people would suggest I just use my iPhone camera but I tend to get frustrated with it. I took about ten pictures of a friend of mine yesterday: half of them were blurry, and the lighting on the three I took indoors was sub-par. Perhaps I am too accustomed to the great quality of a DSLR, but I will always need a better quality camera than my phone can provide.

If you are looking for a mid-ground camera, something that delivers brilliant pictures and still fits in your pocket, then check out this unit.

Receive free shipping on orders of $25 or more.

Amazon Canada: Brother Personal Handheld Labeler Only $17.49

Amazon Canada: Brother Personal Handheld Labeler Only $17.49

I’m in the process of moving (seriously, just sat down from loading boxes onto a truck) and at my new house I really want to get organized from the beginning. I was on the hunt for an inexpensive label maker and I think I’ve found one at Amazon. Get this Brother PT90 P-touch electronic labelling system for only $17.49, with a regular price of $34.99.

There are a number of features I really like about this labeling machine, one being the ability to preview what I wrote before I print. Another is that it has so many letters, fonts and patterns, as well as three changeable faceplates so you can customize it how you like it. You can create one or two lines of text and it comes with a black on white starter tape.

The reviews for this machine are wonderful, with most being either four or five star. I like how this one sums it up nicely:

This machine is great. The keyboard layout makes it easy to type. I also like the symbols, decorative modes and choices of font size and find that they are intuitive, even if you lose/get rid of the instructions. An awesome feature is a mechanism on the back that flips up the edge of your finished label so that it’s easier to peel off the backing. I found it took some getting used to, but it makes life so much easier than trying to flick between the layers with stubby fingernails.

Of course I compared prices to other online retailers and found it sold for pretty much the regular price. Best Buy sells the PT-90 for $34.99, Staples sells it for $34.86 and Brother sells it for $34.99. This makes Amazon’s price a definite hot deal.

Unless you spend another $8 or so, you’ll have to pay shipping, as the free shipping threshold is $25.

Amazon Canada: VTech MobiGo Games As Low As $6

Amazon Canada: VTech MobiGo Games As Low As $6

Amazon Canada had a kick-butt deal on if you are looking for an inexpensive hand-held learning system for your child. Get the VTech MobiGo 2 Touch learning system for only $11.99 with a regular price of $39.99, but this sold out before I could tell you about it. Instead, I’m going to tell you about a number of MobiGo games that are on sale instead!

There are quite a few games on sale, but the best deal I see is on the Disney Cars 2 game, which is now only $5.99 with a regular price of $19.99. While this game is a bit older, I don’t think Cars ever goes out of fashion with kids. My son was just telling me that Planes 2 is coming out and I thought maybe he’d think it was too babyish, as he is eight, but he said he was excited. I’m sure he’d still play a Cars game and so would his younger brothers. My youngest watches the Cars movies a few times a week!

The Madagascar 3 game is also a great deal and the same goes for it as a movie that kids like to watch over and over. The game looks really fun with lots of educational components built right in. This one is $7.38 with a regular price of $19.99.

Add Toy Story 3 to that list of well-loved movies and you’ve got yourself a threesome of fun and inexpensive games for your child to play on their MobiGo. This one is selling for $9.02 with a regular price of $19.99.

Keep watching the actual MobiGo game device as sometimes items that have gone out of stock at the cheap price will come back.

Shipping is free on orders over $25, so you might want to see what else is on offer at Amazon to save yourself the shipping costs.

Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Camera was $320 now $180 @ Amazon.ca

Posted by on June 22, 2014 at 11:30 AM

Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Camera was $320 now $180 @ Amazon.ca

If you’re in the market for a new point-and-click digital camera, there’s a neat deal happening at Amazon.ca on this black Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Camera. Originally priced at $319.99, you can currently pick it up for only $179.99 with free shipping to your home.

One reason that I choose to write about this deal was because of the price comparison. It’s much more expensive at many other well-known online Canadian retailers, with the next best online price being $237.59 @ Newegg Canada. I did spot it for a bit cheaper, coming in at $215.22 from CameraCanada.com, but I don’t have any experience of this store and I’m not too aware of its general reputation.

The Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Camera seems to be a fairly basic model, with a 10.1MP image resolution, 5x optical zoom, and 720p HD video. While browsing through the images of this Canon camera on Amazon, one said that it’s “YouTube ready.” I noticed this little camera has wifi capabilities – that’s a very handy feature. You can upload your images and videos when you are out and about. That’s something lacking in my own digital SLR camera and a feature I wish I had too.

As for the camera itself, the style of it on the front is pretty standard – it’s nothing fancy to look at, it actually looks very minimalist. On the back however, I like the fact that the viewscreen is really large in comparison to the device – it’s a 3” LCD screen. I’ve had cameras in the past with tiny viewscreens on the back, the screen on this Canon digital camera takes up the majority of the real estate there.

I had a bit of a google for reviews and they’re quite scarce, I often got hits for an older model of camera with the same name, from back in 2002. I couldn’t find many reviews of this exact model… please drop us a line in the comments below if you’ve had a good or bad experience with this camera.

Amazon Canada: 70% Off SanDisk Cruzer 64GB Flash Drive

Posted by on June 20, 2014 at 11:30 PM

Amazon Canada: 70% Off SanDisk Cruzer 64GB Flash Drive

You do not want to miss this great deal at Amazon Canada: save 70% on a SanDisk Cruzer 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Originally $99.04, the 64GB flash drive is now on sale for $29.99 with free shipping.

I found the same exact model at Tiger Direct Canada for $51.99 + shipping. There is also a Glide model offered which has the same capacity (64GB) and most of those are running $64+. Compared to the price of a 64GB flash drive in other brands as well, this one certainly takes the cake.

This flash drive gives you massive digital space in a portable product. Drop files, PowerPoint projects, images, and even videos onto this device and then pop it into your pocket for on the go use. It is easy to bring all the extra files you need with you while traveling or on business trips. Are you going to visit the relatives? Load this flash drive up with family photos and home movies to share while you are visiting.

The reviews generally agree that for the size, this is an fantastic price. The only downside seems to be that the flash drive is a bit slow compared to a USB 3.0 flash drive. However, it is almost universally agreed that the trade-off of speed for low cost is worth it. One reviewer said:

Easy to use, no setup required. I put 30 gigs on this and it took 1 hour. Not the fastest..but fast enough. If it was faster then i’d give 5 stars but overall, a very good product..especially for the price. Why anyone would pay retail at bestbuy / futureshop i have no idea…

That pretty much sums up most people’s opinions on the product. The SanDisk Cruzer flash drive has garnered an average of 4.3/5 stars with 163 reviews overall.

This would also be a great option for backing up important files when you do not have access to your large external hard drive. I have had two computer hard drives fail on me, so I am somewhat paranoid (okay, I am very paranoid) about this computer’s hard drive dying sometime. It would be a comfort to me to have a recent backup of all my current files and notes just in case it does decide to give me the *tick* *tick* *tick* of death. There is nothing like losing all your notes a few days before final exams.

Because the flash drive costs over $25, it will ship free.

Amazon Canada: Wolf Of Wall Street Only $10

Amazon Canada: Wolf Of Wall Street Only $10

Amazon has a fantastic deal on a fantastic movie. Get The Wolf of Wall Street (blu-ray, DVD, digital copy) for only $9.99, with a regular price of $39.99.

I was intrigued to watch The Wolf of Wall Street after seeing the buzz about it around Oscar time. Once I watched it, I was actually quite shocked because I had no idea about plot or anything like that, just that Leo and Jonah starred in it. I have to tell you, this movie is not for the faint of heart. There is A LOT of sex in it. I personally don’t mind seeing sex in movies, but truly, it is every few minutes. The movie is definitely entertaining and makes you want to keep watching to see what will come next.

Don’t just take my word for it, see what this reviewer who gave it five stars had to say:

I have to admit this is a movie that draws you in and takes you on a roller coaster ride. For sheer absurdity and entertainment and based on a true story this is hard to beat.

There were a few reviewers who gave it one star for varying reasons, one which would be no real story. I’d have to argue against that point, considering it is based on true events. Another said it made them sad that people like this actually existed, which could be true, but that does make good movies. One reviewer made this very obvious statement:

The use of obscene words, the extent and quantity in this film, is totally abhorrent to our family. For most people this would not be a film for the family to view.

Yes, do not watch this with your granny or your children.

As for pricing, this is definitely the best deal out there as Future Shop sells it for $21.99, Walmart sells it for $19.96 and Cineplex sells it for $19.96.

You’ll have to spend another $15 to get free shipping.

Amazon Canada: Buy Select Hilarious Movies and Get $10 Off To See 22 Jump Street

Amazon Canada: Buy Select Hilarious Movies and Get $10 Off To See 22 Jump Street

I marked last Friday on my calendar because it was the day Channing Tatum and I had a date. Well, he was on the screen and I was in the theatre, but that’s a date! Any time spent with Channing is a good time, and since he brought his friends Jonah Hill and Ice Cube, it was definitely a party. I saw the new 22 Jump Street movie and there were parts where I was holding my gut I was laughing so hard. As if you need a reason to go see 22 Jump Street, but Amazon is giving you an extra one. Buy select movies in DVD or Blu-Ray and you’ll get a Cineplex code to get $10 off the cost of seeing 22 Jump Street.

The best part of this deal isn’t even getting the $10 off, the selection of movies are all can’t miss movies that you really need to see. Even if you have seen them, owning a copy and watching them again and again really can’t be a bad thing. Many of them star our friend Channing Tatum, but they are mostly just hilarious movies.

My favourites:

21 Jump Street – seriously, you need to see this. Was $14.99, now $9.83.

The Other Guys – staring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg (who is my other long lost love), is probably my second most favourite movie (after 21 Jump Street). The tuna fish part kills me. This is on sale too, now only $11.49, with a regular price of $19.99.

About Last Night/St. Elmo’s Fire – this one is quite different from the rest of the list, but About Last Night was one of my favourite movies as a teen. I remember wishing that things could work out. This one is on sale for $11.49, with a regular price of $19.99.

Once your movie ships, you’ll be emailed your code to use on the Cineplex website to get your tickets for the show online. You have until August 31st to see the movie once you get the code.

Shipping is free on orders over $25.

Amazon Canada: Animaniacs Full Seasons Only $11.49

Amazon Canada: Animaniacs Full Seasons Only $11.49

Take yourself back to the nineties and immerse yourself in the animated show Animaniacs, getting each full season for only $11.49, instead of the regular price of $41.19.

I never did watch this show (I guess I was too old in the nineties!), but was reading the rave reviews about it online. Amazon has quite a few good reviews about this show, which looks like it is great for all ages. Parents who watched it in the nineties now want to get it for their kids to watch. I love doing this with shows I loved as a kid, and my kids have definitely seen The Wizard of Oz, E.T., and the Flintstones along with many other movies and television shows I enjoyed as a child. For only $11.49 a season, there is no reason to get your kids interested in something different. Or, you can relive your own youth and watch this yourself.

Even if you haven’t watched this, you might like it. It was an award-winning show that is great for kids because of the wacky characters and adults will like the wittiness of the dialogue aimed to go over the kids heads. This reminds me of Spongebob Squarepants, or even some of the Pixar movies. It’s really great when you can sit down with your kids, watch movies and actually have a good time along with them.

Each season is on sale:

For some reason Amazon has volume 2 listed as $11.49, but when you click to it, it comes up a different price. This link might take you to the page to buy it for $11.49.

If you are also interested in other nineties shows, Pinky & The Brain is also on sale for $11.49 from $41.19. There are a few volumes of this one and other fun older shows, so check out the selection.

Shipping is free on orders over $25, so treat yourself to all four volumes.

Amazon Canada: 50% Off Fisher-Price Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship Bucky (Now $27 | Was $55)

Amazon Canada: 50% Off Fisher Price Jakes Musical Pirate Ship Bucky (Now $27 | Was $55)

During only three days, Amazon is offering a 50% discount on select Fisher-Price toys such as Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship Bucky, which is now just $27.49 instead of its regular price of $54.99.

The coolest part about it is that it features 3 push buttons, each with different functions. One activates the loaded cannon, the second makes the Tic Toc Croc explode from the side (as you can se eon the image above) and third serves to to activate the musical part of the ship such as Jake’s catch phrases and the theme song.

Price comparing this musical ship, I found that Sears has it as high as $59.99, while Toys R Us is selling it for $44.97. In either case, Amazon’s current price reduction is a better deal hands down.

And in case you’re thinking this is just for boys, it definitely isn’t as this review proves:

I buy it for my daughter’s birthday, she loves pirates and is very happy with the boat, the songs and the characters are cute.

According to the reviews, this boat is also very durable, which means it could handle just about any temper tantrums or banging on the floor as the ship “sails” away!

You can also save 50% on the following Fisher-Price toys:

Since shipping is only free on orders over $25, you might need to get a filler item if you choose one of the other play sets. The deals section is always a great place to check. You could for instance get the Iron Man Mark 42 action figure for just $6 instead of its regular price of $19.99, but there are plenty more reductions to take advantage of as well.

Amazon Canada: Northern Exposure: The Complete Series for $88.99

Amazon Canada: Northern Exposure: The Complete Series for $88.99

Still looking for a Father’s Day gift? If he is a fan of the 90′s tv show Northern Exposure this would be a great gift set. The original price is $229, on sale for $88.99, that’s a 61% savings.

Although I did not watch the show religiously the first time around, in fact it was more background noise when I would be visiting my older sister, it is on my list of shows to check out. As I recall, this series had a fairly good fan base back in the day. As expressed by so many reviewers on line, the show holds promise that it withstands the test of time with the clever script writing, character development and overall love for the show, which definitely makes me want to move it up on my list of tv shows to watch.

This is great story and character driven tv, an absolutely classic series. The characters are endearing, quirky, and memorable. This is especially interesting to watch in this format because the story stands out so much more than watching on tv with commercials.

If Northern Exposure isn’t quite up your alley, Amazon.ca has another tv series box set coming up on their Deal of the Day: Everybody Loves RaymondThe set will be 58% off tomorrow, one day only.

Another tv show with a loyal fan base, as evident by this reviewer:

This is a great compilation at a good price and we are enjoying it immensely. We are viewing all shows of all 9 seasons in order which adds something to the whole experience. We are having a lot of really good laughs.

Both options include FREE Super Saver Shipping as they are over the $25 minimum.

Amazon Canada: Buy A Google Chromecast & Get $20 Free On Google Play

Amazon Canada: Buy A Google Chromecast & Get $20 Free On Google Play

You can get $20 towards Google Play items like movies, music, games and more when you buy and set up a Chromecast from Amazon before June 30th.

I had never heard of Chromecast before, but it sounds very cool. For only $39 you’ll get super small media streaming device that is meant to plug into your TV (via the HDMI port). You’ll then be able to watching video and music on your TV that is streamed from your smartphone, tablet or computer. It supports more than just Google Play, including Nexflix, You Tube and content from your Chrome browser. It also works with Android, iOS, Mac, Windows and Chromebooks. There is also an app so you can do this from anywhere you are.

There are 966 reviews on Amazon for the Chromecast, with a 4.1 star rating out of 5, which I think tells a lot!

If you weren’t sure about buying one before, or waiting for a price drop, this is the time. You’ll get $20 in free movies and more on Google Play when you buy a Chromecast from Amazon, which is sort of like paying less than $20 for your unit. Once you’ve bought your Chromecast, you’ll have to redeem your offer before June 30th and redeem your Google Play credit by July 30th.

This item looks so easy, even I could use it! I am technologically-inept, but this is just a plug and go type of thing. I’ve actually sent the deal to my husband already, as it really is a fantastic deal. Even this reviewer thinks I could use it:

Set up for this was extremely easy to, just as indicated by the “three easy steps”. Granted, I am a bit of techie, so for me it was a no-brainer. Truthfully, if you know how to download apps, you should be able to handle the setup of this. If you don’t, please get your kid/friend/partner that is slightly more technologically adept to set it up.

Usage is easy, Google is making everything simplistic to use and understand, and for anyone who uses Google services, you will find that it maintains the “feel” and logic of the other services it offers.

Your Chromecast will ship for free, as it is over the $25 minimum required by Amazon for free shipping.

Amazon Canada: Six Feet Under Only $63

Amazon Canada: Six Feet Under Only $63

Amazon Canada has a hot deal on the complete series of Six Feet Under. With a regular price of $174.99, it is now $62.99. If you haven’t seen this series, you are definitely missing out as it is one my most favourite television shows.

Six Feet Under stars Michael C. Hall before he was the iconic Dexter. The show is about a family who runs a funeral home and the complexities that go along with living surrounded by death each day. I always loved the way they’d start the show with some very ironic death that would already have you on the edge of your seat. The entire show will haunt your dreams (in good and bad ways), but it is so dramatic and well done that you probably will have to order food in for a week, as you won’t want to leave your chair to stop watching every episode in the complete series.

As I always say, don’t just take my word for it, check out the reviews. There are 39 reviews with a total of 4.6 stars out of 5. This is because 31 of the reviewers gave it five stars. That is a pretty great rating. One reviewer called it “the epic masterpiece of modern time (and television)”. Another said it was the “best thing I’ve ever seen on television”.

Since this show has come out, there have been some new shows I love just as much like Shameless, Dexter and Breaking Bad. But at the time it was released, nothing could compare to getting my Six Feet Under fix. I would classify it at the same league as Sopranos.

Since you spending over $25, Amazon will ship this series to you absolutely free. It doesn’t look like many stores sell the complete series, so I couldn’t price compare, but the cheapest that I saw it was at Costco, where it was about $10 more.

Amazon.ca: Over 80% Off Pocket Knives – Now Under $15

Amazon.ca: Over 80% Off Pocket Knives Now Under $15

Amazon Canada has a fantastic selection of pocket knives that are all 80% off or more. This brings all the knives under $15, which makes them the perfect give for yourself, Dad, or someone else while staying on a budget.

One of the main brands of knives on sale right now is Schrade. I do not know much about this brand, but they make one, two, or three blade fold pocket knives that would be standard in any man’s pocket. There are a bunch of these available all with just little differences that I have decided to list them all here for you:

Three blade Imperial Stainless Steel:

Two blade Imperial Stainless Steel:

Single blade Imperial:

Now those are just all the Schrade Imperial knives you can get for a song. The knives are all 85 – 87% off their original price.

There are a few other charming knives I just have to throw into the mix. This United Cutlery UC2751B Special Agent Stinger Dagger with Wrist Sheath, Black is not exactly a pocket knife but comes close enough. It would come under the category “throwing knife” and I know a guy who use to practice with a set of these in his backyard. He put many holes in boxes. I could never get a good wrist flick going to do much good. This dagger originally cost $71.24 and is now on sale for $12.29.

Smith and Wesson hardly needs any introduction. Amazon is selling this Smith and Wesson CH0015 Linerlock Drop Point Blade with Insertable Aluminum Handle with Pocket Clip for $11.63, originally $71.62. The reviews are only so-so, so buyer beware.

My pick of the bunch is this Cold Steel Rubber Training Laredo Bowie Knife for $14.10 (originally $75.40). My father owns a Cold Steel knife so I am very familiar with the brand. They tend to be a good knife and pretty durable. This is also not exactly a pocket knife but I slipped it in for good measure anyway.

Receive free shipping on orders of $25 or more.

Amazon Canada: 75% Off Die Hard 25th Anniversary Collection (Now $17 | Was $70)

Yippee-ki-yay Moosers! Amazon.ca has discounted the Die Hard 25th Anniversary collection set by 75%! For a limited time, you can get it for just $17.49 instead of $69.99.

I can guarantee that almost any father is a huge Die Hard fan and most importantly, is a die hard fan of Bruce Willis. Along with tons of bonus features, this collection comes with the following 5 discs:

  • Die Hard
  • Die Hard 2: Die Harder
  • Die Hard with a Vengeance
  • Live Free or Die Hard
  • Decoding Die Hard

The Die Hard franchise is an absolutely iconic one and to get all of these movies such as low price is definitely a steal and one that you don’t want to miss, especially since they’re of Blu-ray quality. In fact, this review sums it up the best:

A “must have” for any true Die Hard fan. Just the right balance of fast action, adventure, violence, and humor.

The only hitch is that this collection doesn’t include the latest film in the series: A Good Day to Die Hard. Luckily, a DVD and Blu-ray combo of A Good Day to Die Hard is currently on sale for just $11.49 (reg. $41.99), which is a 73% discount!

Since shipping is only free on orders over $25, be sure to add a filler item. There are plenty of discounts on movies and TV shows right now, such as the Bond 50 Blu-ray 23-film collection set for 70% off. At just $89.99 (reg. $299.99), it comes with all of the Bond films from Dr. No to Skyfall, along with a bonus disc with Skyfall videoblogs, videos on the World of Bond and much more.

Even the final season of Breaking Bad has been reduced to just $25 instead of $55.99 (55% off). A spectacular show like no other, if you haven’t watched it yet, then you definitely need to get cracking on it, especially since you can get season 1 for $15 (reg. $26.99), season 2 for $14.84 (reg. $26.99), season 3 for $15 (reg. $26.99) and season 4 for $10 (reg. $45.99).
