Amazon Canada: Up To 70% Off SafeRest Mattress & Pillows Protectors

Amazon Canada: Up To 70% Off SafeRest Mattress & Pillows Protectors

Protect your mattress or pillow with SafeRest’s protectors and encasements. These are on sale right now at Amazon and are up to 70% off the original price, starting at just $34.95. Depending on the size, pillow protectors start at $13.99 and mattress protectors start at $29.95.

Poopsplosion, blowout, whatever you want to call it, it happens and it sucks. I’m definitely speaking from experience as I have had a lot of these already from co-sleeping and just from changing my baby on the bed in general. Just a couple of days ago, it happened again and this time was so bad that I had to Google how to remove poop stains from the mattress and this prompted me to look for a waterproof mattress cover.

SafeRest’s mattress protector definitely features everything I need and more and considering it usually retails for close to $100 (depending on the size), then it’s definitely well worth it. Below are the different ones available and how much you can expect to pay right now:

The king sized one, for instance, is actually 71% off and on top of being waterproof, also protects from all of the following: dust mites, fluids, urine, perspiration, allergens and bacteria. Plus, it’s made of hypoallergenic cotton and SafeRest’s promises that it’s both noiseless and breathable. Even more surprising is that out of 40 reviews, there is a general consensus of 4.8 stars out of 5 with happy comments like this one:

I recently purchased this mattress protector. To be honest you hardly know that it is there – and that is a good thing! There is no plastic sounds when you move and the protector does not bunch up. Even though you hardly know it is there – I am pretty sure it is very good at protecting the mattress because when I wash it, I can see how durable the cover is etc.

Price comparing also proved that for its price, this is definitely the best mattress protector available out there as well. The cheapest I found on Sears is the basic waterproof mattress pad, which is $23.99 for a queen-sized bed and $28.79 for king but it doesn’t even come close to SafeRest’s quality. Although it’s waterproof, it doesn’t offer protection against the number of elements that SafeRest’s one down and it also isn’t hypoallegenic.

On top of other sizes of mattress protectors and encasements, there are also a couple of options for pillows:

Posted by on September 3, 2014 at 11:47 PM Coupon Code: Extra $6 Off 40W 5 Port Desktop USB Wall Charger Now $29.99 (HOT!)

This is a hot little deal on the Anker 40W 5-Port Family-Sized Desktop USB Wall Charger with PowerIQ Technology. Using the following coupon code, pick up this USB hub for the entire family for just $29.99 instead of $35.99. In fact, the $35.99 price is also a sale as this device retails for $49.99 regularly.

Click here to get your 5-port USB wall charger @ Amazon Canada now

  • Coupon Code: 40WPOWIQ
  • Discount: $6 off above device
  • Expiry: Unknown

Make sure to click on the ‘sold by Anker, fulfilled by Amazon’ option. After some reading, I discovered this offer was also available on the black one but it sold out very quickly. Edit: Black version is back in stock! Get the white or black one while supplies last. The USB wall charger is compatible with the following devices:

  • iPhone 6, 5S, 5C, 5, and 4S
  • iPad Air, and Mini
  • Galaxy S5, S4, and S3
  • Note 4 and 3
  • Tab 4, 3, and 2 Pro
  • Google Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10
  • External Batteries
  • PS Vita
  • Gopro
  • and more!

There are only two of us in my household, and already I see this device being extremely useful. My husband has his smartphone, his tablet, and his iPod Nano that all charge via USB. I have my iPhone and a Bluetooth speaker that also charges via USB. Just between the two of us, we have five devices that need charging on a regular basis. Instead of filling up all the outlets in our house, we can just plug them into this port. That would create a charging hub in our household so we did not need to go searching for our devices each after they charged.

Funny enough, this coupon also appears to take off taxes as well. You can see my cart below: Coupon Code: Extra $6 Off 40W 5 Port Desktop USB Wall Charger Now $29.99 (HOT!)

The device is well rated on Amazon with lots of love from reviewers. One of the latest reviews says:

I bought cheaper units which literally fell apart or short circuited within weeks of purchase. This unit was well built and also more handy to plug with the cable. Furthermore the unit does not overheat even with multiple phones, an mp3 player and a tablet plugged in and charging simultaneously which helps to give piece of mind that the unit will not melt down or short circuit. Even the standard brand name outlet to single USB adapters heat up on occasion from time to time for me. This one stayed cool even with multiple items charging simultaneously. Great unit. I would buy this again if needed.

I have two Anker products so far and I love them. Both are external batteries for our phones, and people have gazed at them jealously on long flights. Receive free shipping on orders of $25 or more. For this and future Amazon Canada coupon codes, visit our forum.

Amazon Canada: Fellowes PowerShred Shredder Only $50

Amazon Canada: Fellowes PowerShred Shredder Only $50

Do you find yourself manually destroying a lot of documents? Simplify your life with the Fellowes 3103202 Powershred shedder and save a mighty buck at the same time. Originally priced at $139.99, you can now get it for 64% off at just $49.99. Hurry as this deal could expire at any moment.

  • Shreds up to 11 pages simultaneously
  • Unit will lock if it’s lifted from the wastebasket
  • 9″-wide paper entry
  • Equipped with a handle for easy transportation
  • 16 FPM speed (feet per minute)

When it comes to choosing a shredder, it all really depends on the cut that you need. In general, there are four cuts available on the market and the smaller the cut, the better it is. Amazon’s description of them all is the most explanatory:

Amazon Canada: Fellowes PowerShred Shredder Only $50

The Fellowes PowerShred shredder falls into the level 3 category, that of cross-cut and really, if you’re looking for a shredder for either home or office use, then that is all your really need. A major plus is that it will cut through staples. This means that you won’t have to spend extra time unstapling everything or ripping the staple out. You can just place the stapled document in and that’s it!

The handle is also very useful for both a home and work setting as the shredder could easily be transported room to room. In the case of the former, however, it definitely wouldn’t be suitable for heavy usage among numerous employees in a large office. Although it specifically suggest usage by just one person, this shredder could be placed in a hallway to share between a couple of people.

Out of 10 reviews on Amazon’s site, this shredder has gathered a general consensus of 4.2 stars out of 5 and here’s what on reviewer had to say about it:

Powerful, not too loud… very heavy duty cutter blades. I have been loving my Fellowes Powershred. It cross cuts like a dream for me… and does not cut out or overheat. I use it constantly until the large bin is full of the fine shreds. It even cuts up stapled papers and those thin cardboard like sheets, that come inside some packaging of various products etc.

Price Comparison

Future Shop has this same shredder for $99.99.

This shredder also qualifies for free shipping as Amazon ships most orders over $25 for free.

Amazon Canada: Crock-Pot 4-Quart Stainless Steel Slow Cooker Only $18

Amazon Canada: Crock Pot 4 Quart Stainless Steel Slow Cooker Only $18

I’m already stressing about dinners and lunches and its only the first day back to school! I work from home and find it hard to give myself a break to go and cook a healthy lunch. I need to get a list of recipes together that are either quick to make or I can make ahead. The same goes for dinner time, as my kids have lots of extracurricular activities booked and I need them to eat right after school. A slow cooker is seriously a life and time saver in these situations. Amazon has an awesome deal on right now for the Crock-Pot 4-quart stainless steel oval slow cooker, now only $17.98 with a regular price of $24.99.

I actually have this exact slow cooker, but I have no idea where I got it and what I paid because I’ve had it for years. It is a good size, cooks the food perfectly and I really have absolutely no complaints. I’ve also used it to make a hot chocolate bar at home last Christmas. I just made a large batch and everyone scooped from it. This year I’m going to try that with apple cider. Slow cookers are seriously very versatile.

Four quarts is equal to 3.7L, which says will feed 4-5 people and I’m going to assume children are only half a person, so it is probably more than enough for a family of five like mine. It has stick-resistant coating so it is very easy to get clean and I can also attest to this. You know when you cook those hearty dishes that inevitably stick to the sides in a crusty, hard mess? Well, those come off with just a wipe of the bowl. It can even go in the dishwasher!

There are a few reviews on Amazon’s site, giving it a 4 out of 5 star rating, including this one:

If you want a basic slow cooker for an affordable price, this is the one. But emphasis on the word “basic”. This is not my first Crock-Pot, and I can see how the quality has slipped over the years. That said, however, it does the job. I know that the high setting is going to cook quickly, the low setting will probably be the ideal setting for actual slow cooking, and the hold warm setting does just that.

Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25, so you might want to look around for a low-cost item to add to your order and get your shipping covered.

Amazon Canada: Robin Williams Films Under $10

Amazon Canada: Robin Williams Films Under $10

Robin Williams has long been one of my favourite actors. There is something about his warmth and how beautifully expressive his face is that just endeared him to my heart as a child no matter what the movie. I recently was looking for some of his films as I realized my collection is sorely missing the Robin Williams touch. I found a stash of DVDs and Blu-rays on sale for under $10 that I thought I would share with you.

I am trying to upgrade my collection to Blu-Ray, so the following movies are first on my list to check out:

Okay. Mrs. Doubtfire is brilliant and I don’t know anyone that would say otherwise. I have heard really amazing things about Robin William’s acting in One hour Photo, so it has been on my list of movies to watch for ages. The start is rather slow though, if I recall correctly. Reviewers really sold insomnia short. I enjoyed that movie and found Williams playing the villain both refreshing and tantalizing. I was surprised to see his name on Happy Feet, as I did not know he did voice work for the movie! I think I need to see those movies now.

Here is a list of the DVDs on sale as well.

People argue that Good Will Hunting was Robin William’s finest film. I have never seen it (again, that list), but it is certainly one of his most famous roles. The rest of these movies I am not too familiar with so if anyone wants to chime in with their recommendations, just drop us a line. I was actually looking for the dead Poet Society, which you can find for $10 on DVD or $14.97 on Blu-Ray. As a soon-to-be-graduating English major, this film feels like a must see before I get my degree.

Amazon Canada: Pre-Order Downton Abbey Seasons 1,2,3 & 4 Set – $57 (Save $48)

Posted by on August 31, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Amazon Canada: Pre Order Downton Abbey Seasons 1,2,3 & 4 Set $57 (Save $48)

Save a boatload of money at Amazon Canada when you pre-order the boxed set of Masterpiece: Downton Abbey Seasons 1, 2, 3 & 4, which is scheduled to be released in late October. The box set is priced at $104.99, but is accepting pre-orders right now for just $56.99 for all four seasons.

This is a pre-order for the release on the 21st of October 2014. When you pre-order, that means you lock in your maximum price at that amount. No matter what price adjustments occur to the product, you will never pay more than what you pre-ordered the set for. However, pre-ordering does mean you can pay less. If you pre-order and the set is released for less than you paid, Amazon Canada will refund the difference. You will only pay the lowest amount.

I could not find this set on pre-order many places, but Chapters Canada does have it for $73.49. I tried HMV, but there was nothing there. This is for the DVD version, not for the Blu-ray.

The Blu-ray version is also an excellent deal and worth getting if you are converting all your DVDs over to Blu-ray like we are. Pick up Masterpiece: Downton Abbey Seasons 1,2,3 & 4 [Blu-ray] for just $64.99, originally $115.99. Again, I price compared with Chapters Indigo who has the Blu-ray set listed for $81.19.

I have never seen the series, so I really cannot advise you for or against it due to content. However, it does have one of my favourite actors in it: Maggie Smith. I have seen this woman in several films and she is quite brilliant (and I am not just talking Harry Potter). The first movie I ever saw her in is The Secret Garden.

Oddly enough there is one review, maybe from some person who received an early copy. The review starts as follows:

A new series of Downton is an annual treat, and as usual this year it is followed by the DVD compendium. This includes the 34 episodes to date. There are seven episodes from the first series, eight each from the second, third and fourth, plus the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Christmas specials of which the first was a dramatic masterpiece, but the second did not deliver in the same way in the opinion of most people although it ended dramatically. The third was not as good as the first but was good solid stuff which most will enjoy.

Logitech Z130 Speakers Only $9 @ (EXPIRED)

Posted by on August 31, 2014 at 12:00 PM

Logitech Z130 Speakers Only $9 @ (EXPIRED)

Over on, there’s a sweet deal on a little set of Logitech Z130 Speakers. These speakers are down from $29.99 to only $9 right now!

As I am sure most of you are aware, you only get free shipping when your order is $25 or more, so these speakers don’t qualify for free shipping if you buy them on their own. You’d have to add some other items to your cart too. With Amazon, it’s easy to find things you need to make an order up to $25.

However, if you have the Amazon Prime student deal, you’ll get free shipping on any order. Keep that in mind if you are a student!

A few notes about these particular speakers:

  • 5 watts of power, stereo sound
  • Low-profile design
  • On-speaker volume & power controls & jack
  • 3.5mm jack input for MP3, DVD, CD player
  • Works with Windows and Mac OS

So, you can see that these are very handy little devices! Obviously at this price point and specification, they’re not going to produce room shaking sound, but they’d be ideal for a few casual tunes, some light background music. The Logitech Z130 Speakers are not going to give you all the bass notes in a Rammstein tune, but I am sure they’ll adequately pump out a little Dido or Coldplay.

There are not many reviews for the Logitech Z130 Speakers on Amazon, only seven in total. However, most people that have reviewed these speakers give it a very positive score. For example, Teddy says:

The speakers aren’t flashy or going to deliver top notch sound. For the price they are everything you need. They’re small but with excellent sound quality and it fills the room quite easily. Great bang for your buck.

Sounds about right!

Let’s check out the prices elsewhere: $25 @ BestBuy, $25 @ Newegg, $33 @ Staples, $30 @ Walmart, $26 @ TigerDirect, $35 @ TheSource. The closest price point I can see is $10 @ LondonDrugs, but again, you’d have to pay shipping on top of that.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete Series Only $68 @ (EXPIRED)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete Series Only $68 @ (EXPIRED)

This week, seems to be having quite a few great one-day only deals on various movies and TV boxsets. One of their headliners today is this DVD set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete Series. Regularly priced at $199.98, you can grab it today for only $67.99 with free super saver shipping!

The DVD boxset contains all glorious seven seasons of this cult classic TV show, that’s 144 episodes of vampire-ass kicking yumminess. So, technically that equates to only $0.47 per episode, if you look at it that way. Yes… you can probably watch many of these via streaming in some fashion or other (e.g. Netflix), but it’s not quite the same as owning the complete DVD boxset to stand proud on your shelf.

I can’t see the exact same set for sale anywhere else just now, for a valid price comparison. But if you’re buying the seasons individually, you’d be talking a lot more moolah (e.g. $153 @ Walmart).

I have a slightly older version of this Buffy boxset, it’s not quite as red and pretty as this edition. I bought the set about 10 years ago, and it took me a few months to get through all the episodes. To be honest, the show starts off pretty corny but then the characters and story-lines develop and it’s turned out to be one of my all-time favourite shows. Even my partner grew to like it – he detested the early episodes and wouldn’t watch it with me… but towards the end, he started to see a few of the amazing episodes and started getting into it.

One of my favourites was an episode called Hush. It scared me muchly. Here’s a wiki quote:

A group of fairy tale ghouls named “The Gentlemen” come to town and steal everyone’s voices, leaving them unable to scream when The Gentlemen cut out their hearts.

Freaky deaky. Did you have a fave episode of Buffy?

Needless to say, most reviews on give this Buffy boxset a rating of 5 stars, with one person even stating that it consumed their life.

The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series DVD Only $73 @ Amazon! (EXPIRED)

Posted by on August 23, 2014 at 8:00 AM

The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series DVD Only $73 @ Amazon! (EXPIRED)

I got an email this morning about a one day deal at Amazon. They’re offering the complete series of The Twilight Zone for only $72.99 in a DVD collection and that comes with free super saver shipping!

Originally priced at $199.99, that’s a $127 discount. While sometimes those “original” prices seem to be really high, I’ve price compare to see if this is really a good deal. You can purchase the very same DVD boxset for $140 @ Chapters, $149 @ BestBuy, $200 @ HMV, so this appears to be a super price from today.

If you are so inclined, there’s also an offer on the blu-ray series – you can purchase it for $148.99. There’s quite a price difference between DVD and blu-ray, eh?

I clearly recall watching this TV show when I was younger, it had some fantastic episodes. I first discovered it when I was a teenager when they were making some of the more modern versions. I then went back and made sure I watched many of the older original shows, including the famous William Shatner episode, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. “There’s… something… on… the… wing!” Classic. By today’s standards, I guess they’re not quite a suspenseful or scary… but they’re excellent shows with excellent writing, with plotlines such as:

A convict, living alone in an asteroid, receives from the police a realistic woman-robot.

I believe The Twilight Zone went on to inspire many movies and TV shows with very similar plots. I was reading this thread on about that. It stats that many popular movies like Child’s Play, Liar Liar, Poltergeist and Cube were all based on old Twilight Zone plots.

I think this boxset would be excellent for a Twilight Zone weekend marathon… complete with lots of junk food.

Amazon Canada: Inexpensive PerfPower Batteries

Posted by on August 22, 2014 at 11:30 PM

Amazon Canada: Inexpensive PerfPower Batteries

This is not so much a sale, as it is just a very good price on batteries. Amazon Canada sells PerfPower Go Green batteries for much cheaper than the competition does for the same size batteries. You can get bulk bundles for amazing prices compared to buying one of the big brands.

First off, we need to clear up some things about batteries. You will see a couple different qualities and the prices reflect that. Heavy Duty (while it sounds impressive), is not as high quality as an Alkaline battery and will not last as long. It is not built for the rigours of game controllers or anything that sucks a lot of power. Many people buy heavy-duty batteries and then complain they do not last as long as Duracell or Energizer. Well, you need to compare apples to apples. Therefore, I will be concentrating on the PerfPower Alkaline battery deals.

Now, if you are a heavy battery user, then you can also buy the AAA and AA batteries in 48 packs. The 24 packs average 33 cents per battery while the 48 packs average 31 cents per battery.

There are a couple other reasons why I like PerfPower. Their batteries are made with recycled and recyclable paper, plastic, and steel can where possible and their packaging uses soy ink. PerfPower also donates a portion of their proceeds to Autism Speaks (go charity!).

As for performance, their batteries are third party tested and compare with the major brands for performance. If you are looking for longer lasting batteries though, you can always buy super-Alkaline. These PerfPower Go Green Super Alkaline, AAA Batteries, 4 Count are just $2.99. That works out to 37 cents a battery.

The competition? Well, they fail. I was looking for D batteries for our stationary bike. Duracell sells a double 8-pack (16 batteries) for $26.76. Energizer sells a pack of 12 for $19.99. Let us compare:

  • Perfpower: 86 cents per D battery
  • Duracell: $1.67 per D battery
  • Energizer: $1.67 per D battery

I call that winning by a landslide. They also seem to have decent reviews on

Haven’t worn any out yet and seem to be holding up to hard use. Good value. Will buy these again.

Amazon Canada: $20 off Kindle Paperwhite eReader – Now $119

Posted by on August 21, 2014 at 3:00 PM

Amazon Canada: $20 off Kindle Paperwhite eReader Now $119

Purchase the Kindle Paperwhite eReader at Amazon Canada for $20 off. The Paperwhite retails for $139 but is now on sale for $119.

Today’s market presents many difficulties for eReaders. When everyone owns a tablet, laptop, or a smartphone on which you can read books, where is the place for eReaders? The job of companies that build eReaders is to differentiate them from the competition. What makes an eReader different and what makes it better than reading on those other devices.

The main difference is the screen. A tablet or phone is designed to be a multi-media device. They are built with brilliant but highly reflective screens. Have you ever had difficulty reading your phone the second you step outside? I have to turn up the brightness to maximum on my phone before I go outside or else I cannot even see enough to get into my phone to turn the brightness up. With the Kindle Paperwhite screen, this is not an issue. The screen mimics paper and there is no glare in bright light.

Battery life is another defining feature of an eReader versus a tablet. With a tablet, you can expect to charge it every day without fail if you are using it. At best, you can get away with a charge every couple of days. The Paperwhite eReader can go up to eight weeks without charging (Wi-Fi off). I am estimating it has around 30 hours of continual use on one charge.

The Paperwhite also comes with a built in light for late night reading and it stores up to 1,000 books. That is enough to keep you reading for a very long time. Another benefit of an eReader over a tablet is weight. Tablets are getting thinner and lighter with every new version, but they have not managed to reach a mere 206 grams, which is the weight of the Kindle Paperwhite.

The Kindle Paperwhite 3G is also on sale from $209 down to $189. It has all the same features as the above eReader and it comes with built in 3G. It also weighs a tad bit more at 215 grams.

I am still in love with physical books, but I do hate the space they take up. One day I might just have to change over to an eReader (maybe when they improve their graphic novel section).

Amazon Canada: KitchenAid Stand Mixer Only $199

Amazon Canada: KitchenAid Stand Mixer Only $199

I know I blogged about a KitchenAid mixer deal just a few days ago, but this one is a good one too! And you deserve to know! Get the classic stand mixer for only $199.99, with a regular price of $399.99.

The nitty gritty:

This mixer has a 4.5 quart polished stainless steel bowl, a 275 watt motor and comes with a flat beater, dough hook and a six wire whip. This one comes in silver, which is a standard and gorgeous colour for a small appliance in your home.

It has a tilt head and 59-point planetary mixing action. This means that it has 59 touchpoints per rotation in the bowl so you know your ingredients are all being incorporated.

This might make a great gift to put away for Christmas, as the under $200 price point is pretty amazing. You could wait and hope the price goes down more, but will it?

The reviews are more than awesome for this machine. Most are five star, some are 4 star and only one person rated it with a 2-star rating. Here’s what people are saying:

This was perfect – just what we were looking for and it’s so beautiful it can just live on the counter!

More than I hoped for. Too bad I didn’t get one earlier. So far, I have whipped egg whites, made bread, whipped cream, cookies and waffles.

Price comparison:

While there is an ongoing KitchenAid rebate going on right now, unfortunately, this mixer doesn’t qualify. It is still a great price regardless. Here it is at Sears for the full price of $399.99. NewEgg has it for $229.99 and Air Miles sells it for $329.99.

Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25, so this will definitely qualify and you won’t have to pay those irritating delivery fees.

(Wii U) Amazon Canada: Pre-Order Mario Party 10 For $50 (Reg. $65) + Free Shipping

Posted by on August 19, 2014 at 5:30 PM

(Wii U) Amazon Canada: Pre Order Mario Party 10 For $50 (Reg. $65) + Free Shipping

Here’s a cool deal for the Mario superfans: you can pre-order Mario Party 10 for Wii U for just $49.99 instead of its regular price of $64.99. It’s set to be released on December 31st 2014 and since Amazon ships most orders over $25 for free, your order will also qualify for absolutely free shipping.

When I bought my Wii U last year, the first game that I bought with it was Super Mario 3D World and boy, have I had fun with it! In fact, my hubby and I still aren’t completely done with the game as although we beat the big boss Bowser, it turns out that there are more levels that are actually quite challenging and there is even a special character you can unlock. I fully expect Mario Party 10 to be just as fun, though it’s not in the same game style as the 3D world one. Speaking of which, Amazon also currently has Super Mario 3D World on sale for $49.94 (reg. $59.99).

Mario Party 10 is actually apart of a series of Mario games by the same name, which all originated with the initial Mario Party that was released for Nintendo 64 in 1998. Since then, it has been playable on the GameCube, the Wii and now the Wii U. It’s the kind of game that you can play with friends as up to 4 players compete against one another in a series of challenges and activities. In the previous instalment of Mario Party (the 9th one), for instance, players had to bounce around on a clouds and collect the most amount of coins. I’m sure that this next instalment will feature the a very similar game play, with the added bonus of better graphics with the Wii U and the ability to use the GamePad on top of the regular Nintendo Wii remote plus.

This is definitely a must-have deal for any Mario fan or Wii U owner in general, especially those of you with kids. This game may also be played alone against computerized players. It would definitely be even better if there was a possibility to play online versus friends but perhaps one day, it will be a possibility!

We would love to hear from you! Have you played the previous Mario Party games? What did you think?

Amazon Canada: Brother Easy Handheld Labeller Only $16

Get organized this fall with a Brother Easy handheld label maker, which is now only $15.99 at Amazon with a regular price of $39.99.

I wish they had this deal on last week when I spent $25 on a very similar label maker. This deal is going fast, so don’t wait or it might sell out before you know it. I love label makers! So far I’ve used mine to label all the drawers in the craft centre I created for my kids in the basement. My next job is to label all of the bins I have stored in the basement full of seasonal goods and clothing that is being passed down to my younger kids, plus clothing that I’m hoping to grow into myself (by losing weight). I am also excited to use it to label all of the camping bins we are putting together for a camping trip next week so that next year, everything is ready to go. Eventually, I’ll use it to label all of the crates in the garage full of tools, sports equipment and more. Once I have all of our back to school stuff put together, I can label it with the kid’s names so it doesn’t get lost or mixed up with their brother’s stuff.

This seems like a basic label maker, with pretty much everything you’d need to label your stuff. It allows you to do special keys, save up to nine labels for using over and over again and you can also pre-design labels.

There are only two reviews and one reviewer said it uses up batteries too fast, but if you use rechargeable batteries, this shouldn’t be a problem. Also, shut off the machine when not in use. I can’t imagine it would drain the batteries that fast creating one label.

Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25, so you might want to see what other deals they have on this week and combine it with this order to get the most out of your money.

Amazon Canada: KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment Now $39.95

Amazon Canada has not had this deal for well over a year, thus I am excited to be blogging about it again. Pick up the KitchenAid RVSA Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers for only $39.95, originally $99.99.

Edit: As per our lovely Moosers’ comments; there is a $20 rebate from KitchenAid on this attachment from August 15 – September 26. In the end you would be paying around $20 after rebate!

I conducted a little price comparing. has the Rotor slicer/shredder attachment on sale for $89.99, Hudson’s Bay Canada has the rotor for $99.99, London Drugs has the rotor on sale for $84.99, and only Future Shop Canada matches Amazon’s price at $39.95. Therefore, if Amazon’s price changes suddenly, you can buy it at Future Shop instead. Given that anywhere else you are paying at least double the price for the attachment (except for Future Shop), I figured this is an awesome deal.

The rotor slicer/shredder attachment comes with four blades and the housing, which fits on your stand mixer. It also has a metal core with which you attach the blades. My husband still has not figured out how to mount the shredder properly, but it really isn’t rocket science. I use the fine shredder blade the most on cheese for pizza. I do highly recommend using firm cheeses. Moisture content matters when it comes to the quality of your shredding.

I have tried slicing cucumbers and a few other vegetables. For me, the shredder is far better than fishing out the food processor when you only need a small amount of shredding or slicing done. I originally found the blades hard to detach, but the trick is to wrap a dishtowel around your hand, stick your hand in (make a fist in the dishtowel), and then rotate backwards. Of course, you want to make sure the stand mixer is unplugged. It works every time.

My main pet peeve, like other reviewers, is the stuff that is trapped between the housing and the blade. However, like one reviewer pointed out:

Some food did get stuck between the hopper and the blade, but, to be fair, I have also had this problem with other food processors.

That is fair. I have watched my husband use the food processor and he hardly fairs any better.

While I would not pay full price for this attachment, I certainly think it is worth the $39.50 that Amazon and Future Shop are asking, especially after the $20 rebate. It is used often in my household.

Don’t have a stand mixer? Amazon Canada has this KitchenAid KSM75SL Classic Stand Mixer on sale for $199.99, down from $399.99!
