RECALL! Certain Sabra Brand Hummus Products Due to Listeria Monocytogenes

Sabra Canada Inc. is recalling certain Sabra brand hummus products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation.

Listeria monocytes have been identified at the manufacturing facility but not in tested, finished product. There have been no reports of illnesses from these products.

My family loves the Sabra Hummus and we buy it often. We know this is possibly a food product you may have at home in your fridge. The above list of affected products looks to be extensive, so please share this info. with anyone you know that may also have this in their homes!

Consumers should not consume the recalled products, they can either throw them out or return them to where they were purchased. If eaten, call your family physician if you think you became ill from eating it.

From the Healthy Canadians website, here is an excellent reminder why not to eat potentially at-risk food even if it looks/smells ok:

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
