RECALL! Kirkland Signature Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice, Due to Presence of Insects

Insects can be found inside of pantry products that are in a sealed package purchased at a store. With rice in particular, insects can lay eggs in the crops and the eggs can end up in the bag of rice. Once the eggs hatch, you're in for a surprise.

A recall has been issued for Kirkland Signature Jasmine Rice from Costco, due to the presence of extraneous material - in this case, insects. If you have this rice you'll be able to see below whether or not your batch is included in the recall.

The affected product can be identified by the following:

  • Kirkland Signature Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice
  • 8 kg
  • BEST BY: 02/APR/2018 up to and including 18/JUN/2018
  • UPC code 0 96619 68505 9

You'll want to check your kitchen pantry to see if you have this Kirkland Signature rice. You'll probably want to share this info. with your friends, too. This is exactly what I'm doing, because a lot of my friends and family shop and Costco and may have this rice.

You'll also want to check other food packages in your pantry that were open if not tightly closed/sealed if you have this recalled product as insects can transfer over to other pantry products. You can place newly purchased rice in an airtight, dry container in the freezer for a week or so to kill insect eggs that may be in the rice. You can even store it in the freezer if you prefer.

If you have this jasmine rice affected by the recall, you may dispose of the product or take it back to Costco for a refund.
