Let a pro keep you motivated while you NaNoWriMo or any time!
Depending on if you are a Sci Fi person or a Fantasy person you may know David Farland also as Dave Wolverton. He goes by both depending on what genre he is writing. For this book he’s using Farland.
So who is this guy? Well, he’s best know in the writing world for his Runelord series but he has written a lot of books all of which you can read about on The Book of Knowledge, Wikipedia. I’ve never read any of his books but on of my favourite authors, Brandon Sanderson, took a writing course from Farland and said that that one course was more important to his writing career than everything else he did on his way to a Master’s Degree in English. Sanderson writes my favourite books and if Farland made him in to the writer he is today, well, I’m all in.
Farland offers online and in-person writing workshops via MyStoryDoctor but for the people who can’t get to Utah or don’t want to lay down the hundreds of dollars to get some help from him, you can get a copy of his NaNoWriMo Inspirations book. It sells for $2.99 but if you sign up to the My Story Doctor website, you can get it in ePub or Kindle format for free. Just sign up, sign in and click on the Free Stuff link up at the top to download it.
The book is meant to give you a new lesson each day of NaNoWriMo to keep you writing. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it takes place in November each year. Basically you take a month and write a full novel. Farland’s lessons for the first four days of NaNoWriMo are:
- Day 1: Be Your Own Inspiration
- Day 2: Staying Motivated
- Day 3: Plotting a Story
- Day 4: Thinking About Your Setting
