my mantra is cook at home and eat healthy and for that i go to local market and buy locally grown organic food from farmer’s market, sometime i buy in bulk and store them in Deep freezer, and i would say that it is very handy and affordable too…

I have a small chest freezer that my parents bought me for my 1st wedding anniversary – think they spent about $140 at Sams Club for it. We keep it in the basement but will eventually move it to our cold cellar (the cold room will mean less energy to keep it cold itself). I LOVE IT because I can buy in bulk when things are on sale and store for later (bread, pizza, chicken breasts etc), or store homecooked things we will not eat right away (soup, lasagna, etc). The only catch is you have to remember what you have in there and use it! Highly recommend that everyone get one.

Great tip- thanks! So you put your meat in the freezermates? I put most of my premade meals in tupperware-like containers, but never tried putting meat in it.

I use Tupperware freezermates instead of baggies. It has always worked well for me and less goes into the landfill. They stack nice too, so everything looks much tidier.

I make BIG batches of homemade spaghetti sauce and chili and freeze them in margarine containers. Easy weeknight meal – just heat and serve with pasta or rice and a veg.

I actually don’t like chest freezers because of all the digging to find things, but that’s just personal preference. My mom’s is invaluable though. She has her fresh fruits and veggies grown in the garden, and she freezes batches of them each year.

I also heart my chest freezer too!!! I use the fabric reusable grocery store bags to sort my food so I don’t have to go on a digging expedition each time I want something.That also helps me to know when I’m getting low on an item. Chest freezers are much better all around than stand up ones.
