    Fongo Free Mobile Phone Service

Posted by Anna on February 7, 2012 at 7:00 PM

    Fongo Free Mobile Phone Service

Has anyone heard of Fongo? It’s a new service in conjunction with Dell Canada, which offers free calls to Canada from anywhere in the world (including from within Canada!) – through a smartphone app.

Here’s what they say, as they can explain it slightly better than me:

Dell Canada and Fongo have come together to offer Dell Voice. Dell Voice gives you a new phone number to make & receive free calls across most of Canada using your Android, iPhone, iPod Touch or Windows PC.

For the Moosers using Blackberries, apparently the Blackberry app is coming soon.

The app will use either your wifi connection, or your 3G data plan. For those of us always around a wifi network, it could be very handy. But even if you’ve got some sort of a data plan on your cellphone, it would possibly be better to use the data minutes via the app instead of using up your free minutes.

So you just have to download the Dell voice app on the various marketplaces to your smartphone, and you can start making those free calls. It looks like a similar service to google voice, which is also free during 2012.

I don’t know an awful lot about this kind of thing, but it does seem like it could benefit some Moosers – hope you enjoy! Please let us know how you get on, via the comments below.

Beyond the Rack: Save up to 85% on Clothing and Shoes

Posted by Krista on February 7, 2012 at 6:30 PM

Beyond the Rack: Save up to 85% on Clothing and Shoes

Beyond the Rack is having some awesome deals right now. They have clothing, shoes and accessories for up to 85% off the regular prices. These deals are available until 9th February 2012.

Here are some of the highlights of these deals:

I just love shopping at Beyond the Rack because they offer designer items for a fraction of the price.  As a mom on a budget who rarely shops for myself, I want to stretch my dollar when I do buy something.  They also have a lot of items that you don’t normally see in stores so you get pieces that are more unique than the run of the mill chain stores.

I found this Ariel Dress in fuchsia on sale for just $29.99 (regular price is $185).  I love it because it is a bright colour that pops with a tie at the waist to make your waist look smaller.  I also like the ruffles because they hide those problem areas.  At a fraction of the regular price, this dress would make a great Valentine’s Day outfit! I also like these Quipid Drama 46 pumps on sale for just $29.99 (regular price is $60).  These shoes are awesome because they are basic black so they will go with practically anything, but are a little funky with the unique buckle on the side.  I also like that they are not a huge heel. This entire outfit would be just under $60.  What a steal!

These sales at Beyond the Rack are always limited to quantities so if you are interested make sure you check out the deals sooner rather than later.

Free Wagjag Credit For Telus Customers They’ve also got an app for the iPhone or for Android, so you can use it on the go too.

Ksanders said, “I’m SO excited about this deal!” She must be a Telus customer. Free Wagjag Credit For Telus Customers

You know, I was recently researching the top Canadian stores according to Alexa rank, and I was suprised to see Wagjag coming in as the 344th most popular website in Canada. I did not realise it was quite as popular as that!

The Bay Canada: Save 40% on Select Place Settings Until 9th February

Posted by Krista on February 7, 2012 at 5:00 PM

The Bay Canada: Save 40% on Select Place Settings Until 9th February

The Bay Canada has a really good sale on right now.  Save 40% on all place settings by Mikaska, Royal Doulton, Wedgwood, Noritake and Lenox.  This deal is both online and in stores until 9th February 2012.

I am very familiar with the Mikaska and Royal Doulton brands.  We registered for Miskaska item for our wedding because we found them simple, timeless, beautiful and affordable compared to some of the other brands.  I have family members who love the Royal Doulton brand as well.  Place settings are a very common wedding registry item so it’s a good idea if you have a wedding or shower coming up in the next few months to check out their registry.  If they have registered for any of these brands you can get a wedding or shower gift at a 40% discount that you needed to get anyways!

If you are in the market to buy new dishes for yourself, you can get a place setting as low as $38.40 (regular price is $64) with this Royal Doulton set.  My favorite is this Platinum Wave  by Noritake on sale for just $98.99 a setting (regular price is $164.99)  It is simple enough that it will be timeless but it has the wave pattern to give it some character.

Amazon Canada: Save Up To 76% On Nintendo Wii Games

Amazon Canada have a ton of their Nintendo Wii games on special right now.  They have games on sale for up to 76% off the regular prices. These prices are on for a limited time only.

Here are a few of the highlights I found:

They have games on sale for any age group and just about anything that interests you.  We bought our Nintendo Wii a few years ago and still use it all the time.  My husband loves to play racing and sports games and I like to use it for the fitness games.  My kids are too small to use it yet but I know a lot of people with younger kids that love playing Wii as well.

    Hostelbookers January Sale Extended

Posted by Anna on February 7, 2012 at 3:00 PM

    Hostelbookers January Sale Extended

Hostelbookers.com is a site we discovered last week while researching some accommodation for a friend, so it’s the first time we’ve mentioned it here on Bargainmoose. They had a January sale on last month, but I notice that they’re extending it through February 2012 too!

As you can probably tell by the name of the site, it specialises in hostel bookings. It’s a worldwide site, but you can choose to browse in CA dollars. I’ve linked to the Canadian page above, just for your reference. They’re advertising up to 50% off select hostels. If you’re planning on going away somewhere, it could be worth checking out their prices.

It says in the Hostelbookers sidebar, “The only major hostel booking site that doesn’t charge a booking fee.” That’s good – more savings for you!

A Spanish friend of mine ALWAYS stays in hostels wherever she travels in the world. She usually travels alone, so she finds that staying in hostels is a great way to meet people and make new relationships. She’s brave though, I’m getting old now (!) and I wouldn’t really enjoy staying in hostels any more.

I realise that people are on budgets though, and hostels are definitely a great option for accommodation. This is especially true in large cities, where some hostels are really top quality (or so I am told by my friend)!

Future Shop Canada: Pre-order Pink Nintendo 3DS & Get Free Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land (before Feb 9)

Future Shop Canada: Pre order Pink Nintendo 3DS & Get Free Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land (before Feb 9)

Right now at Future Shop Canada, if you pre-order a pink Nintendo 3DS, you will get a free game with it.  This deal is on  for a limited time only.  My guess is that is is valid until 9th February because  you will be able to get this system in stores as of 10th February.

When you pre-order this game system you will get to choose between a free Super Mario 3D Land game or a free MarioKart7 game.  Both of these titles are great games from Nintendo.  The Nintendo 3DS is available for just $169.99 which is a great deal considering everything you get.  I did a little price comparison for this deal and found a Nintendo 3DS (in blue) at Amazon for $184.99 (no game included).  I also found it at Best buy for the same price as Future Shop but no free game included either.  Future Shop had the best deal on this game system and you get a free game with it!

Cineplex Canada: Family Favorites for just $2.50 Each

Posted by Krista on February 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Cineplex Canada: Family Favorites for just $2.50 Each

Cineplex Canada is going to be offering a great deal.  Starting 18th February 2012, they will be featuring a family favorite movie every Saturday morning for just $2.50 each.

Every Saturday at 11am, Cineplex Canada is offering family favorites for just $2.50 a ticket.  This price includes the tax and a portion of the proceeds goes to the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada. This event runs from 18th February until 28th April with a different “oldie but goodie” movie showing each weekend. Some of the movies include Shrek, E.T, Madagascar, The Muppet Movie and The Neverending Story.  I can’t wait for my kids to see The Neverending Story because it was my favorite movie growing up!

This not only would be a fun family thing to do on a budget but I think this would make a very affordable birthday party idea. It costs so much money to rent places out or to go somewhere to host a birthday party (especially in the winter time), but this is a great alternative for a party on a budget.

(Great post from Craty in the deals forum!)

Chapters Canada: Kobo Touch eReader Buy 1 Save $20 – Buy 2 Save $50

Posted by Krista on February 6, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Chapters Canada: Kobo Touch eReader Buy 1 Save $20 Buy 2 Save $50

Chapters Canada has a great deal on right now for their Kobo Touch e Readers.  Buy 1 and save $20 or buy 2 and save $50.  This deal will be valid until 15th February 2012.

These Kobo Touch eReaders are on sale for just $119 each (regular price is $139).  If you buy 2 of them, the price for each becomes just $114, which is $25 off the regular price.  I did some price comparison to make sure that this sale is a great price. Remember just because something is on sale does not make it a great price!  I found the same eReader at Best Buy for $139.99, I found it at Staples for $139, and I also found it at Walmart for $129.99.  I could not find it less expensive than the sale at Chapters.

Here is a customer review of the Kobo Touch eReader:

I got my eReader for a Xmas present this year and I absolutely love it. I’ve read more books since I got this ereader than I have in a couple of years. AND I’m still reading books from the free library. I haven’t bought any books for it yet cause the selection is great.

The great thing about this deal is that if you know someone else that is looking for an eReader you can get 2 and save even more.  Or maybe you and your spouse like to read a lot and would each use one.
