Canadian Recall: Glass Pieces Inside Smirnoff Ice Alcohol

Well, I guess I won’t be drinking the beverages I bought to celebrate the long weekend! Smirnoff Ice has recalled a variety of their beverages for having a potential of glass being inside. What?! Glass inside? Jeeze! Anyway, this recall became official yesterday and if I were you, I wouldn’t be drinking any Smirnoff Ice products you happen to have. Instead, return them and get your money back or exchange them for drinks that won’t have a risk of having glass inside. Read the rest of this entry »

Heinz Pear Green Bean Mango Baby Food Recalled For Potential Spoilage

Oh no! I always get so worried when I see recalls on baby food, don’t you? Right now there is a recall on the Heinz Pear Green Bean Mango squeeze baby food. Why? For risk of spoilage, yuck! It is non harmful spoilage, but I surely wouldn’t want to feed that to my baby either way.

The recalled Heinz baby food was distributed throughout Canada, so if you have purchased the Heinz Pear Green Bean Mango Squeeze Baby Food recently, then keep reading because it was reported and recalled for microbiological non harmful spoilage. They say that it just effects the quality, but do you honestly want to feed your baby spoiled food? I didn’t think so. Read the rest of this entry »

Walmart Photo Centre Canada: Compromise of Customer Credit Card Data

Walmart Canada’s Photocentre is unavailable due to the potential compromise of customer credit card data. While Walmart Canada will contact customers that they have found to be impacted, I would still pay close attention to your credit cards if you have recently made purchases at or using the mobile app.

Walmart Photo Centre Canada has been closed for a few days now, and some of us were wondering why. Read the rest of this entry »

CRA Extends Tax Filing Deadline to May 5th

CRA Extends Tax Filing Deadline to May 5th

The CRA has extended the 2014 income tax and benefit returns deadline from April 30th to May 5th. Therefore, taxes filed by midnight on May 5, 2015, will not incur interest or penalties. This also means you have until May 5 to pay any taxes you owe for last year without incurring penalty or interest.

Your first question may be “why?”. Well, the CRA accidentally sent out a communication back on April 24 with the incorrect filing deadline – May 5th instead of April 30th. Instead of retracting this statement, they decided to stand by their word (email) and extend the deadline. I think this is really awesome of the CRA and I give major kudos to them for taking responsibility for their own error. I know they could have simply said, “whoops, ignore the date in the email” but they decided to honour their word – pretty cool. I wish more companies would do this!

This is not the first time we have seen the CRA extend the tax deadline in recent history. Last year the tax deadline was extended due to the Heartbleed bug. That extension was also by five days.

Now, this means you all have an extra five days to finish your taxes and pay the government what you owe (if you owe anything) without penalty. There are still some good tax software deals around, so I have done a little roundup of them for you.

We have an exclusive deal with Turbo Tax for Moosers! Receive 17% off your tax software when you click through this link. Originally $17.99, the tax software starts at just $14.39 after discount.

Students file for free using coupon code FAY1493 at Dr Tax. Now that finals are over, get your taxes done before the deadline!

Receive 20% off your tax software when you click through our exclusive link here. Tax packages start at $49.99.

There are also a few freebie tax websites for simple tax returns. Try out H&R Block or Studio Tax. For an easy to comprehend tax filing software, the new pay what you want Simple Tax looks gorgeous. These are some of the deals you can still find on tax software. Check out our coupon forum for all the current tax software deals.

No More No Minimum Free Shipping @

Posted by on March 30, 2015 at 11:44 AM

No More No Minimum Free Shipping @

Oh noooo, Moosers, we have very sad news for you today! Walmart Canada has just announced that it will be discontinuing its free shipping no minimum policy. In a couple of days, you will need to spend over $50 when shopping online in order for your order to qualify for free shipping.

This means that gone are the days of ordering just one beauty item or just one baby pyjama on clearance.

If your order fails to reach over $50, then a standard $4.97 shipping charge will apply. To avoid this charge, we suggest that you pick up your order at your local Walmart store instead as pickup will continue to be free. The Greater Toronto Area also has Grab & Go lockers that you can utilize to avoid that pesky shipping fee.

A $50 minimum threshold is certainly a high one, especially since it’s a jump from $0 but we can only hope that it will be lowered eventually. In a way, a minimum shipping charge does make sense given Canada Post’s decision to cut back on home deliveries. This move must have raised shipping costs for stores like Walmart.

In any case, it’s still very sad news and we suggest that if there is anything you need, to get it now while you still can as Walmart Canada hasn’t announced an official day for the switch.

Moosers, do you shop a lot at How will this affect you?

Fillable Shoes! What Would You Put In Yours?

Fillable Shoes! What Would You Put In Yours?

On our travels around the internet, the Bargainmoose team is constantly on the lookout for new and interesting stores to write about. While on my own virtual travels, I found a US based footwear store called Ashbury Skies. And thereon, I found some extremely interesting pairs of shoes. These are the Yru Qloud 2091 shoes which you can buy there. They’re $145, so while this isn’t technically a “deal” post, I thought it would make for an interesting article! Here’s what they say about the shoes:

The socks flips up, and there is trap door to fill up the bottom with whatever your heart desires.

Sadly, the ponies aren’t included in the above purchase.

We had a laugh about it on the Bargainmoose virtual office here. I’d like to fill mine with something like body parts of Frozen-themed Barbie dolls, or perhaps Lego. Eva was thinking candy or…

I would say diamonds but I don’t have that many diamonds.

Avigayil would like to fill her shoes with gummy teeth candy or fake eyeballs. Brooke wonders if they’d hold water and fake fish…

What would you put in your fillable shoes?

For Which Canadian Stores Would You Like To See Exclusive Coupons?

For Which Canadian Stores Would You Like To See Exclusive Coupons?

Here on Bargainmoose over the years, we’ve set up great relationships with some of the stores we write about, and often arrange MOOSE themed exclusive Bargainmoose coupon codes which I am sure you have seen us write about. For the current batch of exclusive coupon codes, we blog about them here and there are more on our forums here.

There are some codes which we’ve had for years and years, and there are some codes which are only valid for a day or two. Some popular examples just now:

Now, the codes may not always be super high, but it’s worth checking Bargainmoose coupons before you shop in case a code will save you a few bucks. You can see a small selection of logos from currently active stores in the image above… but there are around 200 current exclusive coupon codes on Bargainmoose.

Many of our exclusives expire on the 31st December 2014 so we’re going to have a big coupon audit and get loads more active Canadian coupon codes on site. The reason I am writing this post is that I wanted to ask you guys if there are any Canadian stores or boutiques which you regularly shop at, for which you‘d like us to set up an exclusive coupon code. If so, please write it in a comment below, we will check it out and reach out to the store.

For which stores would you like to see exmoosive coupons?
