Saving Cash On Your Road Trip

Posted by on October 25, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Saving Cash On Your Road Trip

When you hear the words “Road Trip”, do you typically have a moment of silence for the money that you’re about to spend on unnecessary items? You don’t have to do this if you plan for your trip with your friends, family, or your significant other – with a little preparation, you can have even more fun when you’re on the road! After all, it’s fun to save money, people! Yeah!

Now road trips can be a pricey endeavour – especially when you’re making frequent stops along the way. It’s always important to pitch in for gas if you’re not driving, so keep that in mind as well. However, when you’re filling up on gas and you’re feeling hungry, it can be really tempting to fork out some of your dough for some overpriced snack foods and drinks (seriously – getting some beef jerky, a bottle of pop, and a pack of gummies can easily cost about $10 with taxes included at a gas station).

You’ll also be stopping for meals along the way, which can be a necessity along the way (after so many hours on the road, nothing beats a nice hot meal at a restaurant). I know I’m a sucker for Denny’s, so whenever I’m one of the proud members of a road trip-related excursion, that’s usually one of my favourite spots to eat during our journey.

Unfortunately, stopping at so many places along the way can really lay the smack down on your bank account (it’s happened to me plenty of times). Listed below are some important tips that can help you save some money on your road trip:

  • If your destination is a particularly long ways away from where you are and you need to spend a night at a hotel during your journey, try to do some proper planning so you won’t pay exorbitant fees for a hotel room. Plan out your trip on Google Maps or Mapquest ahead of time so you can estimate a good in-between point where you would take a rest from driving and get some sleep. Instead of booking through the hotel directly and paying steep fees for your overnight stay, you can get a discount on plenty of hotels by using Orbitz, Hotwire, or Priceline.
  • Get plenty of food and drinks for you to bring with you on your journey! This can help keep you from purchasing overpriced and unnecessary snacks (well… Doritos are always necessary) at gas stations and other locations. Get some sandwiches, fruits, veggies, drinks, granola bars, and snacks, pack them in a cooler or a cooler bag, and you should be good to go! This can help you save a substantial amount of money.
  • When you’re stopping at a restaurant to have a meal, pick up some affordable fast food. If you’re on a diet or just don’t like fast food, you can always go to a grocery store that has plenty of selections in their deli departments, or you can go to a restaurant. Just try and get something affordable so you won’t spend too much before you get to your destination.
  • Before purchasing any souvenirs or items during your journey, ask yourself these two questions: “Will I care about this one week after buying it?”, and “Where am I going to put this when I come home?”. There is a bunch of stuff that I’ve bought during my many road trips with friends and my girlfriend, and so much of it is just collecting dust now. So before you buy that souvenir that looks hilarious, think twice and save that money for when you arrive at your destination. After all, would you rather spend $30 on a T-shirt, or would you prefer to spend that on something that would be more exciting?

I hope that these road trip money-saving tips can help you out. If they do, feel free to comment! Also, if you have any tips on saving cash when you’re on the road, post them below. Thank you, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day!

Game Access Canada: Far Cry 3 (Used) For The Xbox 360 | Was $20 Now $8

Posted by on October 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM

Game Access Canada: Far Cry 3 (Used) For The Xbox 360 | Was $20 Now $8

Good afternoon, Bargainmoosers! Game Access currently has a good deal on used copies of Far Cry 3 for the Xbox 360 video game system. Originally $19.99, you can now purchase this game for $7.72 (plus $3 shipping). That’s a pretty sweet deal! This game was also quite popular when it was originally released, so if you’ve never played it before, this may be a good chance to try it out.

Far Cry 3 is a quality first person shooter for the Xbox 360. It gets rave reviews from both critics and gamers alike, and it currently has a score of 91 on Metacritic – that’s no easy feat! It’s a title that continually gets praised to this day.

So I’d like to take this opportunity to share a story that’s related to this game. Early last year, I decided to randomly pick up some Taco Bell at a shopping mall – it had been a long while since I’d bitten into some delicious salty tacos, and I had a particular craving for Fries Supreme. So Taco Bell was running a promotion where you can get the chance to win a PS3 and some other assorted prizes, and when I removed the coupon from the side of my soft drink, I found out that I won Far Cry 3 for the Playstation 3!

This was a very recent release at the time, and I was surprised that I actually won a decent prize from one of those contests! Unfortunately, reality set in – I didn’t have a PS3 system at the time! I just had an Xbox 360. After I eventually received this game in the mail, I ended up selling it on Kijiji for $20 off the retail price at the time – at least someone else was able to enjoy it, and I was able to afford more tacos and Fries Supreme from Taco Bell!

If you were to buy Far Cry 3 for the Xbox 360 at Best Buy, it would cost you $19.99 (plus shipping), and it’s currently $17.88 at Amazon (plus shipping). Listed below is a brief review of Far Cry 3 for the Xbox 360 from a satisfied Game Access customer:

The organic nature of the open world of Far Cry 3 is what won me over. The island simply feels alive, from the animals, weather, people and activities to accomplish, it’s a terrific experience. The story is also a great time, but the world is really the draw here.

This deal will expire before midnight, so if you’re looking for an affordable game to try out for the Xbox 360 system, then you should consider getting Far Cry 3. Happy gaming, Bargainmoosers!

Toys R Us Canada: Little Tikes iTikes Map | Was $35 Now $20

Toys R Us Canada: Little Tikes iTikes Map | Was $35 Now $20

Good morning, my fellow Bargainmoosers! Toys R Us is having a pretty sweet sale on their Little Tikes iTikes Map today – you can now get it for $19.98 (plus $8.74 shipping). This Little Tikes iTikes Map usually retails for $34.98, so you’re saving $15 with this deal. If you spend at least $25, you’ll qualify for free shipping, so I highly recommend that you find another product that’s at least $5.02 – after all, it’ll cost you approximately $8.74 in shipping if you don’t get anything else, so you may as well get something extra AND pay less for your order!

The Little Tikes iTikes Map is a great educational product for children. It reads aloud some fun, interesting facts, and you can also connect to it  with select cell phones and tablets, like the iPhone and iPad, via the App-based play. This is quite the interactive device! It’s geared towards those who are around 3 to 4 years old. You can learn more about this edutainment device by clicking on the link above.

It’s a great time to learn when you’re a child. It just seems like you can absorb a fair amount of information with a younger mind (I still remember plenty of things from when I was a child, yet I can sometimes forget about TV shows that I just watched a few months ago – go figure). This looks like a really cute device, and it would certainly be a great gift for any child that loves to learn!

I remember being especially interested in learning more about other parts of the world when I was a young child. Unfortunately, some of my facts were mixed with fiction, since my source of information was the old computer game, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? It certainly gave my teachers a good laugh!

If you found this Little Tikes iTikes Map at WalMart in America, it would cost you $40.31 US. I’ve included a brief review of this educational device from a satisfied Toys R Us customer below:

This is a great toy! It’s so much fun to spend time with my granddaughter travelling the world without spend a dime. After we travel we going into the kitchen and try to make a item from the area that we learned from.. It’s priceless!!!! Thank you.

I hope you’re all enjoying your Saturday, my fellow deal hunters!

Normally retailing for $149.99, you can now get a Samsung Gear Fit for $89.99! You’re saving $60 in total, and this fitness tracker typically sells for $219.99 at The Source, and it’s $115 (plus shipping) on Amazon. It’s also currently sold out at Best Buy. This isn’t the first fitness tracker I’ve seen. My significant other owned a Fitbit, and really got a kick out of how it would keep track of her sleep patterns. She eventually sold it when we started using the Nintendo Fit Meter (it’s really a very handy device! I just wanted to get something that would track my steps, and eventually she fell in love with how simplistic and efficient the device is). However, this Samsung Gear Fit is one sleek looking device! I would have no qualms with wearing one of these, since it looks pretty cool. And you know I take myself very seriously (cough..cough).

WalMart Canada: Fleece Tops For Women On Clearance | Was $10 Now $3

WalMart Canada: Fleece Tops For Women On Clearance | Was $10 Now $3

WalMart is at it again – they’re providing us with some amazing clearance deals! Now that the weather is starting to get a little chilly and we’re nearing the end of October, it might be time to start preparing for colder weather conditions (I refuse to say that 6-letter word that starts with a “w” and ends in an “r”). Well, WalMart is currently having a clearance sale on some of their George Classics Fleece Tops for women, which you can now buy for just $3 each! These previously retailed for $10 each, so you’re saving 70% with this deal! Best of all, you’ll also get free shipping with your order.

These crewneck fleece tops for women are 72% Cotton and 28% polyester, and have an easy pull-over style. You can choose from a wide variety of different colours and sizes, including pink, blue, red, and light blue. For $3 (plus free shipping), this is a huge bargain!

It always helps to have a few extra tops to wear. Since this is such a cheap price, you can pick up some fleece tops that you can use whenever you’re planning to eat somewhere messy (I have a terrible habit of getting some food or sauce on my clothes when I’m at an all-you-can-eat buffet… those chicken balls filled with sweet and sour sauce can get slippery). Or you can bring some of these affordable fleece tops with you when you’re embarking on a road trip or a vacation – if you lose them, you wouldn’t have to worry too much (after all, they were only $3).

The George brand is exclusive to WalMart. Similar fleece tops are currently on sale at Old Navy for $11.99. I’ve included a brief review of these fleece tops for women from a satisfied WalMart customer below:

I bought this a month ago, and it’s soft and warm. I recommended these tops to my friends.

Since these are on clearance, they may not be in stock for very long! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Thursday, my fellow Bargainmoosers!

Staples Canada: La-Z-Boy Ellison Manager’s High-Back Center Pivot Chair | Was $275 Now $125

Posted by on October 23, 2014 at 8:30 AM

Staples Canada: La Z Boy Ellison Managers High Back Center Pivot Chair | Was $275 Now $125

This is one sweet deal! Staples currently has their La-Z-Boy Ellison Manager’s High-Back Center Pivot Chair on sale for $124.54 – it used to cost $274.54! That’s $150 off the retail price! You’ll also qualify for free shipping!

Click here to check out this deal @ Staples.ca now

The La-Z-Boy Ellison Manager’s High-Back Center Pivot Chair looks so comfortable that I wish I was sitting in it right now. Sure, my black leather office chair is very nice, and it’s quite convenient, but you just can’t compete with an office chair that was made by La-Z-Boy! They’re especially known for their recliners (thus, the famous term La-Z-Boy is used commonly, much like the way people will call tissue paper Kleenex, even when it’s a generic brand). Yes, La-Z-Boy has plenty of brand familiarity, and a great reputation, too.

This is a very good deal at Staples. This La-Z-Boy Ellison Manager’s High-Back Center Pivot Chair is a high end product, and I’d be very surprised if these comfortable-looking chairs were still in-stock tomorrow! If you’re looking for the perfect replacement for your office chair, or if you want to spoil yourself and get a luxury piece of furniture without breaking the bank, then I highly suggest that you check out this deal!

If you were to purchase a similar La-Z-Boy Manager’s Chair at Bizchair, it would cost you $501.99. I’ve included a brief review of a similar La-Z-Boy manager’s chair from a satisfied Staples customer below:

Husband was having back problems from sitting in his chair from a certain cheap store. So I went to staples and bought him this. First he complained that I spent this much on a chair, however he absolutely loves it! He’s in his office chair 8-10 hours a day and has not had a single pain since I bought him this chair!

This deal expires on October 28th, but I’ll be shocked if this La-Z-Boy Ellison Manager’s High-Back Center Pivot Chair remains in stock until then. I hope you all have a great day today!

Amazon Canada: Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 On Blu-Ray | Was $44 now $19

Amazon Canada: Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 On Blu Ray | Was $44 now $19

Good morning, Bargainmoose readers! Today’s deal on Amazon is for the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 on Blu-Ray, and it’s a good one! We’ve recently seen Volume 1 on sale at Amazon (and it still is), but this is the first time that I’ve ever seen a substantial sale on Volume 2. Normally $43.98 on Amazon, you can now purchase the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 on Blu-Ray for $18.99 (plus $1.99 shipping). Now that’s a great price for 3 Blu-Ray discs packed with classic Looney Tunes cartoons!

The Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 on Blu-Ray is a great set that features plenty of these classic Warner Brothers cartoons, including characters such as Bugs Bunny, Sylvester & Tweety, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and many others. What’s especially intriguing about the Blu-Ray version of this set is the extra Tex Avery cartoons that are included, which have been highly coveted for many years.

If you’re looking for something relaxing and nostalgic that you can play in the background when you’re busy around the house, or if you want to unwind and relax on a Sunday afternoon with something familiar, then you should consider picking up this set. I also recommend that you get The Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 1, especially if you’ve ever enjoyed these cartoons when you were younger. They have aged quite well, and are still entertaining!

If you purchased the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 at Best Buy in America, it would cost you $42.99 US. It’s getting hard to find this set on Blu-Ray nowadays (it’s not currently listed on Future Shop, Best Buy, or WalMart). I’ve included a brief review of this Blu-Ray set from a satisfied Amazon customer below:

Watching these cartoons on a 72″ screen, fully restored in Blu-Ray is a real treat. The picture is nice and clean, the colours are vibrant.

I hope you all have a great day today!

If I had to purchase a stroller for my child, I would make sure that it was safe, easy to maneuver, and highly rated online. This Contours Lite Stroller thankfully has many favourable reviews online, and I’ve included a snippet of one of them from a satisfied WalMart customer below:

I first used the stroller at home. It was light and easy to manuever in the house. If I needed to, I could carry it up and down the stairs. I think Baby Savvy enjoyed it too. I gave her a bottle on more than one occasion and would rock the carraige. Before I knew it, she was asleep. This must have been a sign of comfort. When we go out for a walk, I like the protection of the oversized orange shade. It is not big and bulky so it was easy to get in and out of stores.

Since this Contours Lite Baby Stroller is on clearance, it may not be in stock for very long, so check it out while this deal is still valid. Happy hunting, Bargainmoosers!

Newegg Canada: Digital Games Sale – Save Up To 70% On Square Enix Titles

Newegg Canada: Digital Games Sale Save Up To 70% On Square Enix Titles

Newegg is currently having a digital games sale, which should please PC Steam users. Right now, you can save up to 70% on a deep selection of Square Enix titles, which includes familiar games like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light ($2.99 - was $9.99), Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut ($6.99 – was $19.99), and  Sleeping Dogs ($6.99 – was $19.99). What’s great about purchasing digital games is the fact that you can play the games that you bought shortly after purchasing them! This sale is on until October 24th, so take advantage of these sales while you can.

This is one sweet sale from Newegg. From Tomb Raider to Kain & Lynch, there are plenty of familiar franchises that you can find here. Some other great games that are worth checking out here include Thief ($10.49 – was $29.99), Tomb Raider: Anniversary ($3.14 - was $8.99), and Hitman Absolution Professional Edition ($10.49 – was $29.99).

Seeing a good mix of older and new games in this sale started to make me feel a little nostalgic. I first played Tomb Raider on a demo disc for the Playstation 1. Remember how awesome those PS1 demo discs were? They would be packed with tons of playable demos, so you would be able to try out a myriad of different games before you purchased them. Anyways, when I first tried out Tomb Raider (it was Tomb Raider 2), I thought the controls were slightly clunky and unresponsive, but it was still a cool game. The newer Tomb Raider games thankfully have much better controls, and look fantastic, too!

Hitman Absolution Professional Edition usually sells for $29.99 on Amazon’s American website. Listed below is a brief review of this game from a satisfied Amazon customer:

I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars because it is a game with an interesting story line, many ways to fulfill objectives, and has plenty of replay-ability. I usually steer away from 1 player games because I like the dynamics of playing against human opponents. With this Hitman I have gone back and tried new ways of taking down enemies and used different locations to draw or distract my victims.

If you enjoy playing PC games, and you’re a fan of Square Enix, then do yourself a favour and check out this deal. Happy gaming, Bargainmoosers!
