Home automation has always been the realm of the geeky. The home security side of home automation has always been for the rich or paranoid. I’m not gonna lie and say home automation and security isn’t geeky or expensive anymore, but I will say that it has been expanded to allow anyone in. It used to be that home automation was big, expensive modules hanging out of your sockets, hard to program timers and some fairly advanced equipment. It was just a pain in the butt for most normal people. Nowadays it’s stuff like USB enabled wall outlets and the Wallee iPad wall mount case.
And it’s the Wallee that I want to talk about next. The fine folks at AAR Tech mentioned it specifically but that is not why I’m writing about it. Normally, to be quite honest, if a site recommends a product to mention in my post, I don’t. That’s not important though. What is important is that this product, which I was hoping was connected in some way to the movie Wall-E, is pretty cool.
No, it’s not related to the movie but it is cool nonetheless. Essentially it’s a series of accessories that attach to an iPad case. There are a few things I like about this setup over others. The first is that one case works with a bunch of different mounting mechanisms. You can use the case to mount it to a wall, mount it to the back of a headrest, give your iPad a kickstand or one of the other options available. Another big plus is the continued functionality after the iPad is off the mount. Some of these mounting systems have a big clunky case or have to be glued to your device. The Wallee case is functional even if it isn’t mounted.
